New York - Day 2

Our first stop on our second day in NYC we went to the Empire State Building. Along the way we stopped for a few pictures and saw Macy’s. DSC_0283 DSC_0288

The ticket to go to the top is for the 86th floor observatory. Chloe and David wanted to go to the tippy top, the 102nd floor, so I went too. Oh em gee, SO SCARY.

It honestly was very cool visiting the top, but I was also very nervous. If you stood still long enough, you could feel the building swaying. I know this is necessary, but I did not enjoy it! And then the planes flying everywhere…not cool. But it really was an amazing view and unbelievable that we were 1250 feet high!

Chloe’s brother Tyson lives in New York, so after us tourists did the Empire thing, Tyson joined us for the remainder of the day. Next stop, Shake Shack for lunch :)

Tyson told us that there is a Shake Shack app for the iPhone so you can see how long the line is. Apparently it’s a pretty popular place!

I had the Shake Shack burger, fries and a vanilla milkshake. Healthy huh? Oh well!

Then we headed towards Washington Square. This was quite an interesting place…lots of different types of people, and not so much the glamorous midtown tourist area.

One of the guys in Washington Square was walking around dressed like a clown shaking a money can. When we walked by minding our own business and didn’t give him any money, he gave us a piece of his mind and kicked snow/ice on us! Some of these people need to be in the loony bin…

One thing I get really excited about is seeing real places that movies were filmed at. If you’ve ever seen the movie I Am Legend you may recognize the house below.

At this point we were just kind of walking seeing what we could find, when Tyson decided to take us to one of his hangouts, a cool under ground bar called “Down the Hatch”. I didn’t love all the bar stops since I am not a drinker, but I went along anyway and got to see some cool places.

We came across this wall of 9/11 tribute plaques, and upon closer look, saw that most of them were from Tallahassee! Pretty small world…

After a lot more walking, we made our way to an old Subway track that had been turned into a sort of sky/walkway. I can’t remember the name, but it led through the Meat Packing district. It was a nice leisurely stroll with some great views.

We walk into a hot dog shop, David walks into a phone booth, and says he has to make a call…

Next thing ya know, the lady on the other side of the door buzzes open the secret passage to a bar called “Please Don’t Tell”. What a neat place!

We then split ways with Tyson and we headed to dinner, Momofuku Noodle Bar. At first I was pretty excited to have some noodles, but I quickly saw there wasn’t much on the menu that looked very appetizing to me. I didn’t know what half the stuff was. So I ordered some chips and told the other two I’d get something to eat later that evening from a place close to our hotel. They thoroughly enjoyed theirs though!

For dessert we went to the Momofuku Milk Bar…I enjoyed this one! I got candy bar pie and Chloe and David got the crack pie. Both were very yummy!

After dessert, we walked back to the hotel and then they went off to meet up with Tyson and his girlfriend, and I went to the friendly neighborhood Applebee’s for some food that was a little more appealing to me :)
