A Little Red, White & Blue

I have a lot of wreaths. But what I didn’t have was any Patriotic door décor.

I needed to remedy that. Enter Pinterest.

Duh.

My (less than) $10 Fourth of July door decor. :)

Here’s my inspiration. Simple. Clean. Cute

I changed it up a little by using canvas instead of wood.

It’s light weight and I have had an itch to paint one.

This two pack canvas set was $5.99 at Hobby Lobby. You can’t beat that with a stick. And now I have one leftover for something else!

I did all this measuring and drawing lines. Doing it right.

And my painter’s tape was too wide so I had to fold it lengthwise. A pain.

I hear if you don’t want seepage under the tape, you should first paint over the tape with white paint (or your under color) and once that dries then paint your color. But I was going for perfectly imperfect here and I’m too patient for all that waiting anyway.

To minimize the seepage I blotted my sponge brush on the edges, then did one swipe down the middle to have even strokes.

Slight bleeding, but fine by me.

Ready for the star. I chose to do one instead of fifty because I’m lazy it was simpler.

I could have cut it on my Cricut but again I’m lazy it was simpler to just trace it on contact paper and cut it out with an xacto knife.

I taped it right to my iPad and traced it.

Sidenote: I wish I could “lock” the screen from zooming because it kept trying to do so when I was taping, tracing, etc…

Stick it and using the blot method again I filled in the star.

I let it dry overnight then sanded it lightly to give it a worn look.

My original intent was to use this in lieu of a wreath. I wasn’t feeling it here though. I don’t think it was big enough for the door.

I made a switcheroo though and now I love it!
